Xiqiu Han

Dr. Xiqiu Han, has been working at the Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources (SIOMNR) since 1993. Her research interests are deep-sea resources and environment. Currently, she serves as Vice Dean of the Ocean College, Zhejiang University, Adjunct professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, member of the Standing Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology, member of International Secretary of World Federation of Scientific Workers. Her research fields cover deep sea mineral resources and their associated geological systems. Over the course of her career, she studied gas hydrate, Fe-Mn nodules, Co-rich crusts and polymetallic sulfides in tectonic regimes that vary from continental margin to mid-ocean ridge settings. Mineral resource prospecting, mineralization processes, environmental and climate changes in the geological past have been the focus. She has conducted 19 cruises in world Ocean, among which 11 cruises was led by her as a chief scientist, including one dive cruise using human-operated submersible Jiaolong. So far she and her team have discovered 12 deep sea hydrothermal fields and the unique hydrothermal ecosystems in Indian Ocean ridge. She has been awarded the First National Innovation Award, the Top Ten Popular Science Figures in China, the Second National Science and Technology Progress Award, the China Young Women Scientist Award, the National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, ect..
