This interactive workshop will guide authors through the process of writing and reviewing papers for international journals. Based on the presenters’ large experience of writing, editing and refereeing papers the workshop will attempt to give guidelines for the nature of papers published and to help authors succeed in publishing.
We will discuss:
- the general structure and content of a research article;
- the choice of the journal, citation indices and impact factors;
- the difference between a Nature/Science and a "normal" paper;
- the way of making the paper more citable, valuable and attractive;
- why papers may be rejected outright;
- the role and responsibility of referees and editors;
- the role of artificial intelligence;
- the publishing cycle and models (open access, etc.);
- the "publish or perish" problem.

During this Editor Roundtable you have the chance to raise your questions and discuss with Editors-in-Chief and Associate Editors of Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science and other international journals.
Present will be: Michael Elliott, Tim Jennerjahn, Steve Mitchell, Anita Franco, Jacob Carstensen and others.
