Dr. Christian Winter, Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen, Germany
Christian Winter is the head of the working group "Coastal Dynamics” at the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences MARUM at Bremen University, Germany. He graduated as a civil and hydraulic engineer at the University of Hanover and did his PhD in coastal geosciences in Kiel. His research focuses on physical processes in shallow water environments like rivers, estuaries, beaches, tidal channels and continental shelfs. In a synthesis of field observational data, laboratory experiments and numerical model simulations research focuses on the formation, development and hydraulic effect of bedforms, the morphodynamics of tidal inlets and beaches, and the dynamics of suspended matter and fluid mud. CW is coordinating and participating in collaborative interdisciplinary and international research projects and has conducted numerous land- and ship-based expeditions. His research results are published in numerous articles in journals. He is teaching at the University of Bremen and supervises PhD students in Bremen and in collaboration with colleagues in Europe, North and South America, and New Zealand.
