Prof. Dr. Victor N. de Jonge DSc was awarded a PhD from the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) in 1992 and awarded the degree of DSc from The University of Hull in 2002. Victor has held the position of honorary Professor of the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies (IECS, Hull, UK) since 1995. Victor specialises in oceanography and marine ecology and has extensive (45 years) experience in the science, policy making and management of estuaries and coastal areas, marine and estuarine pollution, eutrophication and coastal engineering. Victor has worked on policy supporting research as well as on fundamental research and worked as a civil servant with Rijkswaterstaat (the Netherlands) for over two decades. His current research interests focus on how to assess the condition or integrity of coastal ecosystems and how to integrate ecological, socio-cultural and economic aspects for policy making and management.
Victor is the present Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier journal Ocean & Coastal Management and has further a long standing record as editor of several journals among them Aquatic Ecology, Coasts & Estuaries and Marine Ecology Progress Series.
